Hi, my name is Dan Smith from Novotel Yangon Max. Novotel Yangon Max is a very busy, modern, corporate hotel with 366 rooms, 7 bars and restaurants and a very, very large banqueting.
The hotel opened 3 years ago and we have 3smoking floors and the Time Out Sports Bar which we are in, is also dedicated for allowing smokers.
In an effort to become smoke-free, we have now reduced our floor back to only a few rooms, and it is only on the 4th floor which is where the bar is. When you make a change like this, you find that you inconvenient the people who are used to smoking in their rooms.
We quickly found that we had a problem with people smoking in their rooms or coming to the Time Out Sports Bar and smoking. And of course that would impact our non-smokers. We started to talk to Medklinn and quickly came up with a solution to put in the air system. We engaged Medklinn in a number of areas, the big one being here in the Time Out Sports Bar.
We implemented their Medklinn air system into the bar and that gave us immediate effect, where we quickly realized that we had much less complaints about smoke.
The other great thing is that during the day when we open up right now, during the morning and there is no smell.
So the reputation of the bar changed. We found that non-smokers were able to enjoy the bar as much as the smokers. As we said, we don’t get as many complaints anymore.
The nature of the hotels is that you can’t control everybody and we find that from time to time people are smoking in their rooms, even though they are in non-smoking rooms. And that quickly gives us a problem that there is smoke smell on non-smoking floors.
We again implemented the portable Medklinn units rather than having the air purifiers that we used before, which we still found thay they were not as effective. We started to use Medklinn, we found that the smell from the smoker being in the room was quickly taken away.
For us, we now have nicer smelling areas in our hotel.
