Why Scented Candles Can Wreck Your Health

Are you like the most us who find our homes cluttered with all kinds of unwanted or unused items? Been meaning to spring clean your home to tidy up and make space for other things but just don’t know where to begin because you’re afraid of opening a can of worms? We’ve all been there.
Whether you are doing it because you’ll have guests or parents in-law coming over, need to make space for new furniture or it is simply an annual affair, spring cleaning is never easy. Getting your home in shape is the same as getting yourself in shape; out with the bad and in with the good but very importantly, maintaining it. Sometimes it is easier said than done, that is why we want to share some simple ways in making your spring cleaning efforts more effective and long lasting.
Firstly, get a few big boxes to separate your items so you’ll know which to Keep, Recycle, Donate/Sell, or Throw. Use a disposable respirator/mask when you’re cleaning because spring is in the air, and so are lots of dust and harmful microscopic particles. Often during the decluttering process, we find lots of outdated and unwanted documents. Many are bank statements, receipts, tax invoices or other documents that may contain confidential and personal information, so remember to have them shredded before recycling
Once you have sorted out most of the bulkier items, you’ll find that there’s now a lot more space for mobility and storage of other stuff. Before you set your new furniture for the new year, you should clean your home thoroughly but where do you begin cleaning, you ask? Well, let’s break it down to the furnishings, appliances, carpets and linens. The surface area that you are now responsible for cleaning is probably twice the size of your home. Terrifying as it may sound, covering all those surfaces isn’t actually as difficult as perceived. Here’s how to clean the more effective way:
The traditional top-down management practice should be applied for spring cleaning. Start from the highest items in the area/room which are likely to be your fan, air conditioner, and lights. Wipe the surfaces carefully to minimize dirtying the surroundings. You may find it a little challenging to clean the inner parts of the aircond vents as they are narrow and rectangular shaped. Here is where you can use a butter knife wrapped in a cloth to access those difficult parts.
Now that you’ve tackled those up above, it’s time to go for the large surfaces parallel or close to your eye level. These items would be your cupboards, windows, and doors. Cleaning glass surfaces often leaves behind stains and water marks. A simple trick is to wipe your windows with a damp cloth before using newspaper to wipe away the remaining water and stains. The ink from the moist newspaper acts as an abrasive when rubbed against surfaces such as glass.
After handling those panels and woodwork, you’d want to go for the dining and kitchen areas. With all the cookware, appliances and sinks around, there is much that needs to be done. Baking soda is the magic ingredient to a chemical-free polish. Baking soda helps get rid of oil and can easily be sprinkled onto surfaces like tiles, silverware, pots, pans, oven, microwave, sinks, and faucets and then just give it a gentle scrub in a circular movement using a damp cloth. You’ll immediately see the results.
Seeing your home in a tidy and orderly fashion after your hard work is most satisfying. But in achieving so, you’ll ultimately be exposed to all sorts of dirt, dust, grease, bacteria and germs. All these substances are in their own ways harmful to your health. People with a lower immunity tend to fall sick more often and those with sinus allergies could easily suffer a sinusitis infection from the bacteria, viruses, and fungi that were brought to the surface and air from the cleaning itself. These airborne particles could remain or even spread around your home long after your spring cleaning. Thus, jeopardizing the health of you and your loved ones.
